James E. Hartley Jr. Waterbury, Connecticut
A 1972 graduate of Boston College, James E. Hartley, Jr. received his Juris Doctor degree in 1975 from Columbia University. Mr. Hartley is a member of the Connecticut bar; U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut; U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit; U.S. Supreme Court; and the Waterbury and Connecticut bar associations. He is a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association as well as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Mr. Hartley has been practicing law in Connecticut since 1975, in commercial, securities and class action litigation. He was lead counsel in the seminal Uniform Securities Act case of Connecticut National Bank v. Giacomi, as well as class counsel in the matter of In re Prudential Insurance Litigation, a case that resulted in a settlement to national insurance policyholders of $2 billion. Mr. Hartley also served as class counsel in the matter of In re Colonial Realty Securities Fraud Litigation, a case that resulted in a $120 million settlement. Mr. Hartley presently is a member of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee in In re Managed Care Litigation, MDL-1334 in the Federal Court of Southern District of Florida and Lead Counsel in In re U.S. Foodservice, Inc. Pricing Litigation, MDL-1894 in the Federal Court of District of Connecticut.
